Privacy Policy
CricSwing is designed from the ground up to be a privacy-respecting experience. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not collect or store any personally identifiable information. With your permission, we collect anonymous gameplay data to improve the game's swing detection — this is optional, never identifies you, and you can decline. This policy explains exactly what data is used during gameplay and why.
01 — Who We Are
About CricSwing
CricSwing is a smart-TV cricket batting game developed and operated by NYTT. The app turns your Android phone into a cricket bat — swing detection is powered by the device's accelerometer, gyroscope, and orientation sensors. A TV (or any browser) displays the pitch, batsman, bowler, and live score in real time.
Phone and TV pair instantly via a 4-character room code brokered through cricswing.com. No account, email address, or sign-up is required.
This policy applies to all users of the CricSwing Android application and the associated web experience at cricswing.com.
02 — What We Collect and Why
Motion Sensor Data (Device Only)
The app reads your device's accelerometer, gyroscope, and orientation (derived from the accelerometer) to detect bat-swing gestures during gameplay. For real-time gameplay, this sensor data is processed on-device and transmitted only within the local WebSocket session between your phone and TV — it is not sent to NYTT servers for gameplay. Separately, and only if you opt in (see "Anonymous Gameplay Data" below), anonymized summaries of your swings may be collected to improve the game.
Anonymous Gameplay Data for Improvement (Optional)
To improve our automatic shot-detection, CricSwing can collect anonymous gameplay data: the motion readings of a swing (accelerometer and gyroscope values), the detected shot type and shot label, whether the delivery was a dismissal, the bowling delivery type, your batting-hand setting, which on-device detection engine was used, the game mode, runs scored, and a timestamp. This is linked only to a randomly generated identifier created on your device for the play session. It is not your name, email, phone number, advertising ID, or any device hardware identifier, and it cannot identify you personally.
This collection is optional and off until you agree. The app asks for your consent first; you can decline, or turn it off later in Settings. When enabled, this data is sent securely over HTTPS to NYTT's servers and used solely to develop and improve the game. We never sell or share it with third parties. To request deletion, contact us using the details in the Contact section below.
Room Pairing Code
When you start a game, a temporary 4-character room code is issued by our Cloudflare pairing service at cricswing.com. This code is used solely to establish a local-network connection between your phone and the TV browser. The code expires when the session ends and is never linked to any personal information.
Game State (Ephemeral)
Live game state — such as current score, ball events, and match progress — is transmitted over a WebSocket connection between the phone and the TV for the duration of a match. This data exists only in memory for the life of the session and is discarded when the connection closes.
Device and Technical Information
Standard connection metadata (such as IP address and WebSocket handshake information) may be transiently processed by our Cloudflare infrastructure during the pairing handshake. This information is not stored or logged by NYTT.
03 — App Features
The following features of CricSwing involve processing of the data described above:
- Bat-swing detection via accelerometer, gyroscope, and device orientation
- Room code generation and LAN handoff via cricswing.com (Cloudflare)
- Real-time game state sync between phone and TV over WebSocket
- Live scoreboard display in the TV browser
- Embedded local game server bundled inside the Android app (runs on-device)
- Optional, opt-in collection of anonymous swing data to improve shot detection
No feature of CricSwing involves user registration, login, profile creation, social sharing, or advertising. The only analytics is the optional, opt-in anonymous gameplay-data collection described in Section 02, used purely to improve shot detection.
04 — Android Permissions
CricSwing requests only the permissions necessary for core gameplay:
| Permission | Reason |
|---|---|
| Sensors (Accelerometer / Gyroscope) | Detects bat-swing gestures during gameplay. Data is processed on-device only. |
| Internet | Required to reach cricswing.com for room-code pairing and to open the WebSocket session with the TV browser. |
| Access Wi-Fi State / Network State | Reads the device's local IP address so the embedded server can bind to the correct network interface. |
| Nearby Wi-Fi Devices (Android 13+) | Required on Android 13+ to read the LAN IPv4 address for local server binding. The flag neverForLocation is set — this permission is never used for location. |
| Wake Lock | Keeps the screen on during an active match so the game does not pause mid-innings. |
| Vibrate | Provides haptic feedback on shot events (e.g. boundaries, wickets). |
No other device permissions (camera, microphone, contacts, location, storage) are requested or used.
05 — Data Sharing
The external services that may be involved in a CricSwing session are:
| Service | Purpose | Data Involved |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare (cricswing.com) | Issues ephemeral room codes and brokers the initial LAN handoff between phone and TV | Transient connection metadata only; no personal data |
| NYTT telemetry (nyttai.space) | Receives optional, opt-in anonymous swing data used to improve shot detection (Section 02). Only contacted if you agree — never otherwise. | Anonymous swing readings + a random install identifier; no personal data |
| QR-code image provider | Renders the "install the app" QR code shown on the cricswing.com web page (the TV browser loads the image). Not used by the Android app. | None — a static image request only |
For more information on Cloudflare's data practices, please review the Cloudflare Privacy Policy →
06 — Storage and Security
Live game state is held in memory for the duration of a session and is discarded when the session ends. Raw real-time motion streams are not written to disk. However, to power on-device shot detection, the app may store anonymous swing feature-vectors on your own device (in local storage); this stays on the device and is never transmitted unless you opt in to anonymous gameplay-data collection. If you do opt in (Section 02), those anonymized swing records are stored on NYTT's access-controlled servers and used only to improve the game.
All communication with cricswing.com is protected by HTTPS encryption (provided by Cloudflare). Local WebSocket traffic between phone and TV travels over your own Wi-Fi network and is not routed through NYTT infrastructure.
07 — Retention Period
Because CricSwing does not collect or store personally identifiable information, there is no personal data profile to retain. Ephemeral room codes expire automatically when a session closes. If you opt in to anonymous gameplay-data collection, those anonymized records are retained only as long as needed to improve the game, and you can request their deletion at any time (see Section 08).
Standard infrastructure logs retained by Cloudflare are governed by Cloudflare's own retention policies.
08 — Your Rights
Since CricSwing collects no personally identifiable information, there is no personal data profile held about you that would require access or correction. If you opted in to anonymous gameplay-data collection, you can turn it off at any time in Settings and request deletion of the data linked to your app's random identifier by contacting us. You may also uninstall the app at any time.
If you have any privacy-related questions or believe data has been processed in a way not described here, please contact us using the details in the Contact section below and we will respond within 30 days.
09 — Children's Privacy
CricSwing does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because the app requires no account or personal data, it is safe for all ages in terms of data collection. Parents and guardians are encouraged to supervise device usage.
10 — Third-Party Services
The app uses Cloudflare Workers and Durable Objects at cricswing.com to provide the room-code pairing service. This is the only external service the app contacts for normal gameplay. The only other external contact is optional: if you opt in to anonymous gameplay-data collection (Section 02), the app sends anonymized swing records to NYTT's telemetry server at nyttai.space over HTTPS. Cloudflare is subject to its own privacy and data-handling practices.
The embedded local game server bundled inside the Android app runs entirely on-device and communicates only over your local network — except that, if you opt in to anonymous gameplay-data collection (Section 02), the app sends those anonymized swing records to NYTT's server over HTTPS.
11 — Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide notice within the App.
Your continued use of CricSwing after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
12 — Contact
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or the handling of your data, please reach out to us.
